Thirsty Thursday: Nicki Minaj

Okay so the Passions has a confession to make:

She is a closet Hip Hop Head.  Most of it I don’t like for obvious reasons but some of the music out there I’m kind of feeling, I can’t lie.  And one of the reasons for that is Nicki Minaj.  Women in Hip Hop are not only a rarity but the notion is a slippery slope.  Many are completely controlled – their careers owned by some male producer.  So, few enter the game and their shelf life is just shady.  Minaj has posed herself to be a force to be reckoned with.  Her voice is crazy and her flow is ridiculous and original as hell.  Her style, well she’s been compared to Gaga and her Harajuku Barbie obsession, is well, at least hard to ignore.  At any rate, her rising star is intimidating enough for her to be suspiciously removed from Rihanna’s Last Girl on Earth tour (where ticket sales are reportedly spotty now).  And then rumors spread that Minaj was being signed on by Lady Gaga’s manager Tony Carter.   When Gaga caught wind of it, she told Carter she would walk if he took on Minaj.  Can you say D R A M A?  But for Minaj it’s the good kind.  Funny that two of pop musics most popular and successful chica’s are cock blocking Minaj from claiming her share of the shine  (@ Ri-Ri & Ga-Ga: Ladies, insecure much?).  So that’s why Diddy has easily positioned himself to be Minja’s svengali – oops – I meant manager.   Anyway, if Minaj could only write her own stuff and get her own album out there with lot’s of guest spots on it she’ll be good.  Can Diddy orchestrate this?  Hmmm, we’ll see (saying this with a major side-eye).

So it’s not only Minaj’s flow that I’m feeling.  It’s her whole bi-sexual personae that she’s rocking that is seriously gay-positive.  Whether she’s truly bi or not, it doesn’t matter.  She gets props just cuz she’s representing.

Last month she did an interview with Details magazine where she shed some light on her “sexuality.”

Details: You sign your fans’ breasts at shows. Do their boyfriends get jealous?
Nicki Minaj: If anything, boys are telling me to sign their girls’ boobs. I’ve gone through 15 markers in a single night—because the girls are usually sweating, and a marker will stop writing if the girls are wet.

D: As an openly bisexual rapper, do you think hip-hop is getting more gay-friendly?
NM: I think the world is getting more gay-friendly, so hip-hop is too. But it’s harder to imagine an openly gay male rapper being embraced. People view gay men as having no street credibility. But I think we’ll see one in my lifetime.

D: Have you seen the YouTube video where Michelle Trachtenberg raps one of your verses?
NM: She’s the cutest thing. I just wanted to reach into the computer and kiss her. I might have to get her on a track.

Here is Minaj talking about her alleged preference.  Hmmm…..

And here’s actress Michelle Trachtenberg rapping over a Minaj track.  Funny Stuff.

And for a taste of her flow – here is Nicki on Luda’s “My Chick Bad.”
